Puja (glossary)

puja (fire & murti)

A fire & murti puja

Puja is a Sanskrit term that means sacramental worship. Puja traditionally includes waving lights and incense around an image of worship, devotional gestures, chanting, and recitations from sacred texts.  Adi Da Samraj describes the purpose of pujas as a bodily means for relating to the Divine, through invocation, submission, and reception of Grace.

In a looser sense, Adi Da Samraj uses the word puja to mean any outward activity that includes these three elements (invocation, submission, and reception of Grace), and recommends that all bodily activity be conducted in the spirit of puja.
